Canadian Hosting. Built by the People Who Wished It Existed.
WPCloud was founded in 2013 by a team that had been building WordPress sites for a decade and could not find a hosting provider that met their standards. So they built one. Thirteen years later, WPCloud is Canada’s managed WordPress hosting provider, serving thousands of sites on 100% Canadian infrastructure.
OUR STORY
Nearly Three Decades of Building for the Web.
1998
WPCloud did not start in 2013. The people behind it started in 1998, building and operating e-commerce websites and web applications at a time when the internet was still proving itself as a business platform. Some of those original team members are still here today.
2003
When WordPress launched in 2003, the team saw its potential immediately. By late that year, a small group was already developing WordPress sites for clients. Over the next decade, WordPress development became the core of the practice. The team built hundreds of sites, learned every quirk of the platform, and became deeply fluent in what WordPress needed to run well.
2013
What they could never find was a hosting provider that matched their standards. The hosts they used were either too slow, too unreliable, too far from their Canadian clients, or too indifferent to support quality. Every migration was a gamble. Every support ticket was a frustration. And none of them kept data exclusively in Canada.
Today
In 2013, the team decided to stop looking and start building. WPCloud was launched with a singular focus: fully managed WordPress hosting on Canadian infrastructure, built and run by people who actually understand WordPress. That focus has not changed. Thirteen years later, the team has grown to approximately 24 people, the infrastructure spans three Canadian data centres, and the platform serves thousands of WordPress installations. The company is profitable, growing, and still run by the same founding team that built it.
OUR COMMITMENT
Keeping Data in Canada Is Not a Feature. It Is a Principle.
When WPCloud was founded, the team made a decision that has guided every infrastructure investment since: all data stays in Canada. Not most of it. Not the primary copy. All of it.
This was not the easiest path. Canadian data centre options were more limited in 2013 than they are today. Costs were higher. The big American hosting companies could undercut on price because of economies of scale. But the team believed that Canadian businesses, particularly those in healthcare, legal, education, and government, deserved a hosting provider that respected the same privacy obligations they operated under.
That conviction has not wavered. WPCloud’s infrastructure runs across three Canadian facilities: Montreal, Toronto, and British Columbia. The company is PIPEDA and PHIPA compliant, provides Data Processor Agreements for GDPR requirements, and has never routed client data through American servers. For WPCloud, Canadian data residency is not a marketing checkbox. It is the reason the company exists.
OUR PEOPLE
A Distributed Team. A Shared Mission.
WPCloud is a Canadian company with a team that works from across Canada and around the world. This is not a compromise. It is how WPCloud delivers 24/7 support coverage and attracts the best people regardless of geography.
The support team is strategically distributed across time zones, which means there is always someone awake, alert, and ready to respond. When a client submits a ticket at 2 a.m., they do not get a bot or a queue. They get a person who is in the middle of their working day.
Steve Wilton
Founder and CEO
Steve has been building for the web since 1998 and developing on WordPress since 2003. He founded WPCloud in 2013 after years of frustration with hosting providers that did not meet the standards his clients deserved. He leads the company’s strategy and client relationships.
Edgar
Operations Manager
Edgar oversees the day-to-day operations of the hosting platform, from support queue management to client onboarding. He ensures that every migration, update, and support interaction meets the standard WPCloud clients expect.
Daniel
Head of Infrastructure
Daniel architects and maintains the bare-metal infrastructure across all three Canadian data centres. He manages the Proxmox virtualisation layer, server security, replication, and the performance monitoring systems that keep the platform running.
